James Wade Darts Premier League

Pete’s Best Darts Betting Tips for Night 11

  • Taking form into consideration, I like the look of the boosted 7/1 on a 6-2 Jonny Clayton victory over Gary Anderson at bet365.
  • In the matchup between Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen, we’re sure these two heavy hitters could fill up the T20, so over 5.5 180s looks pretty good?
  • You can also get 6/4 on James wade to break first in his match against Michael Smith at bet365.

All betting lines current as of 10:33 AM UK Time on April 20th.

The 2022 Darts Premier League has another new nightly winner after James Wade finally broke his DPL duck.

The Machine’s win over Joe Cullen in the final of night ten, now leaves Michael Smith as the only remaining player in the tournament still to win a night.

Playing in Manchester, Wade became the seventh different weekly winner after ten Thursday nights of action.

Wade’s triumph over the Rockstar came in his fourth final having reached the last two on night two when Gerwyn Price hit his second nine-darter of the night.

Since then, he has reached the last three finals, losing out to Jonny Clayton and Michael van Gerwen before finally getting a win on the board against Cullen, himself playing in his second final.

In the final, Wade posted an average of 105.48 and pinned six of his nine darts at doubles in a brilliant display.

In contrast, the Rockstar, who had initially gone 2-0 ahead, wasted six of his 11 attempts at the outer ring.

An average of 93 per round earlier was enough for James Wade to overcome Gerwyn Price who had himself taken care of Peter Wright in the quarter-finals.

Earlier on, Wade recorded a dominant 6-2 triumph over Gary Anderson in which he averaged 100.1.

Match Of The Tournament So Far

Last Thursday will also be remembered for the best match we have seen in this year’s Premier League of Darts where Michael van Gerwen and Jonny Clayton met in the first round.

The Ferret averaged 109.1 compared to Mighty Mike’s 105.14, in a match that went backwards and forwards before MVG missed a match dart when shooting for his fourth ton plus finish of the night, leaving the Welshman to nick a 12 darter.

And it’s the Ferret that throws first this week in Aberdeen.

Jonny Clayton v Gary Anderson

We get underway this week with bottom-placed Gary Anderson walking out against Jonny Clayton.

Anderson can take heart from the fact that he will have the support of the Scottish crowd, just as Clayton did in night one in Cardiff.

This week’s trip to Scotland is actually the first of two visits north of the border sandwiched in between a trip to Dublin.

Hopefully, that brings the best out of the Flying Scotsman who really needs the points right now.

The form player of the two is Clayton who last week beat Michael van Gerwen before coming unstuck against Joe Cullen.

The Ferret, a double night winner, has a tournament average of 97.10, compared to Gary Anderson’s, but has played an extra 18 games and looks in much better shape than his rival right now.

Peter Wright v Joe Cullen

There is another Scotsman in the second match of the night where Peter Wright takes on big hitting Joe Cullen.

No one in this year’s Darts Premier League has landed more 180s than the Rockstar, but he does have a tournament-low average of 91.84, established over 14 games.

Snakebite is still stuck on just the one night title and fell at the first last week against a slowly improving Gerwyn Price.

Wright has the second-highest average of the tourney so far and boasts a much better doubles percentage which is why I’m backing Snakebite to come good in Scotland.

James Wade v Michael Smith

Having reached the last three finals, it seems crazy that James Wade is as heavy as 14/1 with bet365 to win this week’s. Crazier still, he’s 15/2 in the same sportsbook to win the Darts Premier League outright.

The Machine is in top form and carries a far greater threat than he is given credit for and has won eleven PDC majors in his time.

Only Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen have won more and now that he is back in a good place such a price is hard to ignore.

As for Bully Boy, he remains the only player left in the competition to win a night and was out in the first round a week ago, so this one definitely feels like a Wade win, especially given as he throws first.

Gerwyn Price v Michael van Gerwen

We finish with a massive match between two of the world’s top three.

It’s hard to know exactly where Gerwyn Price is at right now.

He has gone hugely off the boil and has been dealing with an injury that is clearly costing him points.

Last week we saw both sides of his game at the moment – as well as a new walk on theme – as he comfortably beat Peter Wright in the quarters, before losing out to James Wade in the semis.

The Iceman hasn’t enjoyed the greatest of Premier League campaigns and his opponent, who went out first round seven days ago, is top of the league with a massive leg difference.

This one really could go either way, but in this short format race to six, I’ll side with the Welshman purely because he throws first.

You Won’t Believe Gerwyn Price’s New Walk On Song That Debuted During Night 10 Of The DPL

Gerwyn Price impressed with his win against Peter Wright during Night 10 of the Darts Premier League, but it wasn’t his play that first got the attention of fans.

Before the match, Price surprised fans with a new walk-on song.

https://twitter.com/OfficialPDC/status/1514669471851495430?s=20&t=mCkwvh0n7sfrk_UE5fwUxA

Of course, the new song is none other than Katy Perry’s “Roar,” the 2013 hit that reached number one in both the United Kingdom and United States single charts. As usual, he was greeted with a mix of cheers and boos.

The new song replaces, at least temporarily, “Ice Ice Baby,” which had been a staple of The Iceman’s introductions for some time.

Check out a full version of “Roar” below:

Regardless of what you think of the song, the new song must have worked.

Gewryn Price won his first match in four weeks during Night 10 of the Darts Premier League, defeating Peter Wright during his opening Quarter Final match. He hit a 97 average with a high checkout of 157.

Reaction To Gerwyn Price’s New Walk On Song

Darts fans were quick to head to Twitter for their opinions of Gerwyn Price’s new walk on song with some praising it for being better than “Ice Ice Baby” while others would have preferred that he kept the old tune.

Price not only gave us a new song, but also some new look darts:

Price was not only introduced to a new song, but also tested out some new prototype darts during his match with Peter Wright:

Michael Van Gerwen On Night 10 Of The Darts Premier League

It was vintage Michael van Gerwen in last Thursday in Leeds as he moved clear of Jonny Clayton at the top of the Darts Premier League table.

MVG took on winless wonder James Wade in a final that only lasted a matter of minutes and may as well have been a whitewash.

True, he got a bye in the first round due to Gary Anderson’s covid enforced withdrawal, but on this form that would have been a formality anyway.

The Dutchman moved three points clear at the top of the table by becoming the first player to win a third-night title adding to his wins in Exeter and Brighton last month.

This is an event the former world number one has won on five occasions and in this form, he looks like another could be on the way.

Pete’s Tips For Night 10

  • Back Peter Wright or Gerwyn Price to throw a 180 in the first leg of the night’s opener for 11/10 at bet365.
  • Also from the night’s glamour tie between the world’s top two darters, why not back a 170 big fish finish from either player at 11/1, also at bet365.
  • We should get plenty of 180s in the final match of the night, no one has pinned more than Joe Cullen after all, and with Bully Boy being pretty tasty on the tipple 20s too, the 5/6 given at bet365 for there to be more 6.5 in the match looks likely to pay off.

Unfortunately, we did not predict Gerwyn Price’s new walk-on song.

Back To His Best

Someone as good as Michael van Gerwen was never going to be off the boil for very long and it feels like something big is stirring in the Green Machine right now.

Gary Anderson’s withdrawal meant that the world number three benefitted from going straight through to the semi-finals where defeated world champion Peter Wright 6-3 before laying on a whirlwind annihilation of James Wade in the final, winning 6-1 and posting a 103.87 average.

Racing into a three-leg lead following finishes of 76, 68 and a 14-darter, Mighty Mike closed out the match following 14 dart finish reply from Wade, with another 13-darter and another two legs of 15 and 11 darts to close out his third seasonal victory.

This week, play moves to Manchester and the AO Arena.

Peter Wright v Gerwyn Price

The world number one takes on the world number two to get things underway this Thursday and it’s hard to see anything other than a win for Snakebite.

Apart from one sensational night in Belfast where The Iceman was unplayable, Price really hasn’t been at the races in this year’s Darts Premier League.

He was unlucky to miss night five in Brighton with covid but hasn’t made a final since.

His broken hand is clearly bothering him, and a fortnight ago he looked like he was sporting a black eye.

On Saturday, he was shot down by world number 73 Gordon Mathers 6-5 in a Player Championship match so something is clearly not right with The Iceman.

It’s strange to think that neither of these two have picked up multiple night wins, but it’s Wright that looks the more likely.

Peter has 44 180s this year to a lowly 23 from Gerwyn Price, a mark lower than anyone else in the competition.

You get the impression that Price needs an early break of throw or time will run out on the short format race to six legs.

Although there is every chance that The Iceman is over the worst and could come roaring back in to form, I’m sticking with Snakebite to progress.

Gary Anderson v James Wade

Game two of night 10 pits Gary Anderson against two-time losing night finalist James Wade.

Wade is one of only two players left in the event still to win a night but after reaching – and losing – the last two finals, he is getting closer.

The Machine averaged 93.59 in last week’s final but still couldn’t live with MVG, but something similar out of the blocks this week could be more than enough to see off bottom-placed Anderson.

The Flying Scotsman has only got seven points on the board so far this season, but as we have seen elsewhere with Joe Cullen, one night win can really change everything.

He just doesn’t look like getting it anytime soon and I would expect a Wright versus Wade semi-final.

Michael van Gerwen v Jonny Clayton

The top two collide in match three.

Take nothing away from Jonny Clayton, he has been one of the more consistently impressive performers in this year’s Darts Premier League, but if last week was anything to go by, he is running into Michael van Gerwen at the exact wrong time.

Mighty Mike was back to looking like his old self in Leeds and, throwing first, has the darts to close the Ferret out.

After 16 rounds so far, MVG has the highest tournament average and has posted 13 ton plus checkouts, one ahead of James Wade.

The Green Machine even put in a 103.87 performance in the final last week and, with that being the last I saw him, is enough for him to get my backing this week in Manchester.

Joe Cullen v Michael Smith

The final match of the evening is Joe Cullen and Michael Smith.

With no draws allowed in the Premier League of Darts someone has to win this one and I think that will be Michael Smith.

In a rematch of the UK Open final, a match won by Joe Cullen by the way, Smith is desperate for a night title although he is likely to run into MVG in the next round.

No one has popped in more 180’s in this year’s tourney than Joe Cullen’s 47 but The Rockstar was well beaten by Jonny Clayton last week.

Not that Bully Boy fared much better in his first round match but, Rotterdam aside, Cullen hasn’t quite looked right for a little while and with Smith sporting the top doubles and checkout percentage across the whole league, the St Helens chucker gets the nod.
