Gary Anderson Premier League Darts 2022

We have another new nightly winner in the 2022 Darts Premier League.

In an exciting new format that is proving to be a big hit, Gary Anderson won night six to lift himself off the bottom of the table and get some much-needed points on the board. Anderson had previously lost all of his last five matches in the Premier League since an opening night win over Michael van Gerwen last month.

His five points and £10k reward came, yet again, at the expense of Michael Smith, who was this time a losing finalist in Nottingham.

Smith does however get another three points for his runner-up finish and is now up to fifth in the table, one place outside of the play off places.

Anderson was slow to get going, just about scrapping past Jonny Clayton 6-5 in their quarter-final match before raising his game considerably to send countryman Peter Wright packing with a 6-3 win and an average of 101.88.

Cool Hand Lets The Iceman Down

The Flying Scotsman then elevated his game once more in the final against Bully Boy, where he averaged over 110 for much of the contest which he won 6-4.

Michael van Gerwen’s run of wins was stopped in its tracks as Gerwyn Price made his return to Premier League action.

The Iceman missed the previous week with a hand problem which, while not fully healed last week, was significantly healed that he was able to compete in Nottingham.

The Welshman was in surprisingly good form in his 6-4 dismissal of van Gerwen but unfortunately, the injury flared up again once more in the semi-final against Smith, where he let a 4-1 slip, eventually succumbing to a 6-4 defeat.

Hopefully, for this week’s meet, the world number two will be back to his usual and fully fighting best.

Peter Wright v James Wade

The world number one gets the seventh night of Premier League Darts action underway in an opening clash against James Wade.

Peter Wright is another to have suffered injury problems and was underwhelming last week when winning against Joe Cullen before coming unstuck against Gary Anderson in the semi-finals. It was there he averaged a measly 87, suggesting his back problems aren’t behind him.

Snakebite seemingly carried his problems over into the weekend’s Players Championship events in Barnsley where he was dumped out of both events in the first round to Andrew Gilding and Steve West, averaging just 82 in the last of those.

As for James Wade, it was a peculiar performance that he put on in Nottingham.

In just seven legs, he chucked in six 180s and posted an average of 102+, but still ended up losing 6-1 to Michael Smith courtesy of a missing eight of his nine darts at doubles.

That is unusually sloppy for The Machine, who also suffered a miserable weekend in Yorkshire where he lost two out of four matches.

When it comes to their head to head, these two cannot be split, winning 22 matches each out of 44 and given poor form and fitness this is a tough one to call.

This could easily go to The Machine, but if Snakebite is fully fit he gets the nod in the night’s opener.

Gary Anderson v Joe Cullen

Last week’s champion Gary Anderson steps out next in a match against the player who replaces him at the foot of the table, Joe Cullen.

After winning in Nottingham, The Flying Scotsman declared that he is playing his best darts for three years.

After averaging 105 across the seven matches that took him all the way to the Players Championship final on Saturday he might be right about that.

To that end, it is hard to make a case for Joe Cullen, who lost to Anderson when the pair met in Barnsley on Saturday, this week in Rotterdam.

At one point, he looked like following in the footsteps of Jonny Clayton and used his Masters success to propel him on to greater things, but that doesn’t look the case anymore.

He has lost his last four Premier League matches and has averaged lower than 94 across all four. He also has the worst checkout record in Premier League of Darts.

The head-to-head reads 7-4 to Anderson, who is favoured to come out on top again this week.

Jonny Clayton v Gerwyn Price

It’s an all Welsh affair in the night’s third quarter-final as Jonny Clayton “hosts” Gerwyn Price, who has hopefully overcome his hand injury.

The Iceman was going great guns last week until his hand blew up in the semis final stage.

That caused him to pull out of Players Championship events over the weekend and rest up instead.

Prior to his collapse, Price had averaged over 100 in a first-round victory over an in-form Michael van Gerwen.

Having sat out the night in Brighton, Price needs to make up for lost time. Even if he cannot play in — let alone win — three games in one night, turning up in Holland does mean he has the chance to bank at least two points.

The Iceman vowed on Twitter to give it 100% and he did, pinning a trio of 180s, two ton-plus checkouts and only missing two doubles.

Something similar this week should be enough to overcome his countryman.

As for the Ferret, he fell at the first hurdle in Nottingham and has hardly been at his best recently.

Since winning on night two in Liverpool, Clayton has lost four of his last five Premier League matches.

The Ferret remains in the top four and will definitely be in the mix come the end of the nightly run, but is relying on Price’s injury to make it through this one.

Michael van Gerwen v Michael Smith

The final quarter-final match of the night sees both of the Michaels in the Darts Premier League face off.

For the first of these, Michael van Gerwen gets to enjoy playing in front of a Dutch crowd in a competitive event for the first time since before the pandemic so he will be relishing this evening.

He has hit form at exactly the right time too, despite going out right away last Thursday after a loss to Gerwyn Price.

The Dutchman remains our only multi-night winner so far and, with home advantage, is the favourite for night seven success too.

Michael Smith has rocketed up the league table in recent weeks, having reached the last two finals.

He has at least now put himself in the conversation, but momentum could be halted a little bit here in the Netherlands.

MVG Night 6 of Week 6 of the Darts Premier League

Is he back? He just might be. We have our first multi-night winner in this year’s PDC Darts Premier League as Michael van Gerwen, now number five in the world, wins on successive nights.

After winning in Exeter a fortnight ago, MVG also took the honours in Brighton last Thursday.

If he is back, then it is certainly good timing as he is involved in this week’s glamour tie against Gerwyn Price who himself was forced to pull out of last week’s event due to injury.

On route to last week’s five points, Mighty Mike took out James Wade, Joe Cullen and Michael Smith, who, while not a ranking major, lost out once again at the final stage.

Return Of The Mighty Mike

The Dutchman took out a 106 check out before chucking in a 12 dart leg to open up a two-leg lead in a race to six.

Smith was a bit sloppy on his doubles which allowed van Gerwen to make the break which is often so decisive in these short format best of 11 leg matches.

Bully Boy stayed in touch though and before long had impressively cut MVG’s 4-1 lead down to 5-4 only to see Mighty Mike respond with an 11 darter to secure his second successive night title.

The win moves the Dutchman to the top of the Premier League Darts table, 14 points clear of Peter Wright who went out in the first round after losing his match against Jonny Clayton.

MVG, who also won the German Darts Championship at Halle 39 in Hildesheim at the weekend, is also a whopping 21 legs ahead of Snakebite in leg difference should he need it come the end of the nightly tourney runs. On this form, he won’t.

This week, the action moves to Nottingham, but what can we expect from Night Six of the Premier League of Darts with odds provided by the great Bet365 Online Sportsbook.

Michael Smith vs James Wade

Michael Smith put in his best performance so far in this year’s Premier League of Darts a week ago when he made it all of the way to the final match, only to lose once again, this time to Michael van Gerwen.

This latest final defeat is unlikely to play on his mind, however, and Bully Boy can build on what he achieved seven days ago so is favoured to overcome James Wade in the night’s opener.

Smith fought back last week in the final against MVG and was much improved in terms of landing his trademark 180s, pinning 11 across his three games.

Typically, he is a heavier scorer than The Machine, but his doubles let him down last week which, is where Wade could possibly find some joy.

We’re still leaning towards the St Helens man though.

Michael van Gerwen vs Gerwyn Price

Dropping down to world number five seems to have been the shot in the arm that Michael van Gerwen required as, UK Open aside, he has been back to his unbeatable best over the last couple of weeks, winning three out of his last four events.

The Green Machine followed up his Premier League brace with a first Euro Tour title for nearly three years last Sunday.

His two victories in the Premier League seem to have relieved him of that pressure that has been building recently and now he looks a real threat once again.

Given the condition of his opening opponent, he has to be the favourite to progress this week.

As for Gezzy, he missed last week’s event in Brighton after pulling out at the last minute with a hand injury.

The Iceman remains in the playoff places but can now ill afford to drop or lose any more points and needs to get some evening title wins under his belt quickly.

On present form, the Welshman will need to hit the ground running over a Mighty Mike that is starting to look more like his old self.

Right now, should the match go ahead, it’s hard to see a recovering Price springing a surprise in the night’s glamour tie.

Gary Anderson vs Jonny Clayton

In the other half of the draw, we’re backing Jonny Clayton to come through.

The Ferret lost out to Daryl Gurney in Germany on Sunday in the German Championship final and is very much at home among the world’s elite darters right now following a fantastic 18 months and we believe that he will put on another dominant display against Gary Anderson in Nottingham.

Anderson has not won a match in the Premier League since the opening night and is badly in need of some wins at the Motorpoint.

The Flying Scotsman is currently propping up the table, three points adrift of the rest.

The scoring hasn’t been right for the Scotsman so far this year and, while he will deny it, he has looked a little disinterested for a while now.

Expect Clayton to pile on more Premier League Darts misery for Anderson this week.

Joe Cullen vs Peter Wright

Joe Cullen got a bye in the quarter-final of last week’s event due to Gerwyn Price’s withdrawal and benefitted from some much-needed league points.

While we’re sure that the Rockstar would rather have played the world number two, he was awarded a fortunate 6-0 token victory that is very much welcome.

It is possible that the same could happen this week too as Peter Wright had to withdraw midway through the Euro Tour event in Germany at the weekend due to a back injury.

Thankfully though, Snakebite has declared himself fit again and ready to play.

That being said, it is difficult to know just how pain free he is and what affect it will have on his game so, what was likely to be an easy prediction to make, is now a little more tricky.

The world number one was playing relatively well prior to pulling out over the weekend event, and with Cullen having failed to win a Premier League game since Night Two, his default win over Gerwyn Price last week notwithstanding, Wright still looks the favourite here if we are to take him at his word regarding his fitness.

Peter Wright Is Darts New Number 1 + Premier League Darts Betting Tips And Predictions Night 5

Peter Wright Career Earnings

After 15 months, the world of darts has a new world number one.

At the age of 52, Peter Wright has succeeded Gerwyn Price at the top of the PDC’s Order of Merit.

Snakebite’s rise to the top was cemented by The Iceman’s failure to make it to the final in last weekend’s UK Open.

It was a UK Open that delivered us another new PDC major open winner and also saw Michael Smith lose in yet another final.

Holland’s Danny Noppert, who only averaged in the mid-80s in the final, was the shock winner of the year’s second major after inflicting ever more major final misery on Bully Boy with an 11-10 victory in Minehead Resort Butlins.

That result followed on from Thursday’s Premier League of Darts Night Four in Exeter where Noppie’s fellow countryman Michael van Gerwen put on a masterclass when whitewashing Peter Wright in the Premier League Darts Week Five final.

Despite that result, and subsequent below-par performance at the UK Open, Wright is the new world number one and occupier of the top spot of the Darts Premier League after four nights.

This week, the Scotsman takes on Jonny Clayton in the second match of the night as week five heads to Brighton.

Gary Anderson v Michael Smith

The night opens with a clash between the bottom two as two-time Premier League of Darts winner Gary Anderson takes on Jonny Clayton.

So far, both players have only one win to their name so something’s going to give in this opener.

We’re leaning towards Bully Boy given how well he performed when beating both Gerwyn Price and Keane Barry in Minehead a few days ago.

Of course, he suffered final heartbreak once again — not even for the first time this year — will feel like this last event was one that really was there for the taking.

Apart from somehow managing to let the final slip, Bully Boy enjoyed a great tournament overall, averaging near to 100 before his clash with Noppert, and even fired in a nine-dart finish as well as the most ever number of 180s that we have ever seen in a UK Open.

He is getting closer and will surely get there one day.

Smith will need to pick up the pieces to get going, where he should start the healing process against Anderson this week.

One week ago in Exeter, he got his first points on the boards with his first Darts Premier League win before running into a back-in-form Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals. He looks as though he is finding the kind of form which helped him reach the World Championship final.

As for Gary Anderson, he too has managed one solitary victory so far in this campaign and that was on Night One. He doesn’t look in particularly good shape, so the nod goes to his opponent.

Peter Wright v Jonny Clayton

The night’s glamour match features the new world number one taking on Jonny Clayton as the best two players of the last 12 months meet head-on in the second clash of the night.

Wright is only the 11th different player ever to top the rankings in PDC history, positing wins over Joe Cullen and Simon Whitlock in Minehead, before suffering a collapse in a 10-7 defeat to William O’Connor which came about despite averaging 101 to his opponent’s 94.

One week ago in Exeter, he averaged over 100 during his Darts Premier League wins over Gerwyn Price and James Wade before being whitewashed in the final by the superb Mighty Michael van Gerwen.

This pair met in week one in the final in Cardiff where Wright came out on top. The Ferret has dipped a little bit in recent weeks since winning on night two.

That said, he is more than capable of causing Snakebite considerable damage and will be out for revenge here.

That though may not be enough, and we would expect to see the world champion go through to the semi-finals and possibly further.

James Wade v Michael van Gerwen

Despite roaring back to form in last week’s Darts Premier League, Michael van Gerwen showed how streaky he can be when suffering an early exit at the UK Open after a 10-4 defeat to Damon Heta where he missed six of his 10 darts at doubles.

James Wade surrendered his UK Open title at the weekend where he failed to make it past the quarter-final.

The Machine was also unusually sloppy on his doubles, missing 11 of his 15 attempts in his defeat to Keane Barry, and a similar performance on the outer ring this week will surely be punished by MVG.

Joe Cullen v Gerwyn Price

A gutted Gerwyn Price must pick himself up and go again after losing his world number one ranking at the weekend.

The Welshman looked crushed following his 10-7 UK Open defeat to Michael Smith in the quarter-finals.

This is a nice game for him to bounce back in, however, particularly given the Price will be seeking revenge over The Rockstar for his win in Liverpool.

The new world number two is favoured to go through to the next round, where he is likely to face Michael van Gerwen in a red hot semi-final clash.
